Material Mapping

When reviewing CAD data in VRED, the user currently has to apply material to all parts manually. This can take too much time for prepare, especially for a review where the latest data is required.

In CAD, the design engineer adds material to the parts/assemblies, as this information already exists in the parts, we can use this as a reference to map the corresponding VRED materials during translation.

Instructions

  1. Install Pipeline version 20200121 as a minimum as this version includes the material mapping definitions

  2. Ensure the CAD file includes material, this should be at assembly level:

  3. In Pipeline, go to Models > Upload

  4. With the Upload files page open, drag and drop the CAD file(s) to translate into the window

  5. Go to Models > Upload

  6. Under File Processing Settings, expand Configuration and toggle on “Use a custom options string”

  7. Expand Import Settings and toggle on “Use Material Mapping”

  8. After CAD file has been translated, you can open the VRED file byclicking the Download link

  9. The file will open in VRED and showing the material on the CAD file including the correct names in the material palette
